Save money in 2009 with real nappies

Real Nappy logoThey may not be able to walk yet, but over 100 of the Three Rivers district's very youngest residents are already doing their bit to save their families cash and protect the local environment - by using real nappies.

Real nappy campaignAround 3 billion disposable nappies go into landfill in Britain each year and for every pound that is spent on buying disposable nappies the taxpayer spends 10p on their disposal. Remember too that disposable nappies in landfill take hundreds of years to decompose.

Modern real nappies come in a range of funky designs complete with a removable cloth lining, which makes washing easy. Real nappies can also save families money - the average baby gets through £5 - £10 worth of disposable nappies per week, but 'birth to potty' packs of real nappies cost between £70 and £200 and will last until babies are ready for potty training.

Local mums and dads can also receive cashback when signing up to Three Rivers District Council's Real Nappy Scheme - £40 to parents who wash nappies at home and £80 to those who use a laundry service. Terms and Conditions apply. That's because real nappies help to reduce the amount of rubbish going into landfill sites, which are rapidly filling up.

To find a local real nappy supplier visit www.realnappycampaign.com or ring 020 7481 9004 or download a booklet at www.threerivers.gov.uk.
