On Saturday 20th February the Watermeet theatre will host a charity fashion show to raise money for Oxfam, Help the Aged and Sue Ryder. The event has come about through the collaboration of the Three Rivers Volunteer Centre and Vinspired (the National Youth Volunteering Programme) to run an event called ‘Rags to Riches Fashion Show’. The project aims to recruit volunteers to have a great time making over charity shop bargains into stylish fashion, culminating in a Fashion Show in Watersmeet Theatre in February 2010.

The event is looking for a number of over 16 year olds to be part of a team of volunteers that will include:

Models

Clothes customisers

Event management

Stewards

Hair stylists

Make-up

Publicity  

For any students that volunteer, the project is not intended to interfere with any school work, but to provide the opportunity to advance their skills and experience.

We hope that from this project the volunteers will:

  * Learn how to make great fashion items from recycling charity shop clothing
  * Gain a sense of personal success and achievement
  * Learn about the environment
  * Raise money for charity
  * Gain experience in volunteering to put on their CV
  * Meet new friends
  * Have lots of fun!!

The three charity shops in Rickmansworth that are involved in the project are: Oxfam; Sue Ryder; and Age Concern/Help the Aged. These charities will also benefit from the sale of the customised clothing after the fashion show.
