Bellowhead in concert - in aid of the Peace Hospice
March 10th 2008

Eleven peace folk super group Bellowhead will be appearing at the Watersmeet theatre in aid of the Peace Hospice charity based in Watford. Bellowhead who won the prestigous BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Live Act in 2005 and have been festival circuit regulars will play on Friday 18th April 2008.

Bellowhead liveOver 75% of the Hospice's funding comes from charitable donations and all the care that is provided to patients and their families is completely free. The aim of the event is to raise in excess of £5,000 for The Peace Hospice and so far the organisers are well on their way to reaching this target.

Bellowhead first album Burlesque, was released in September 2006 to critical acclaim and topped the folk charts. They have also appeared on LATER with Jools Holand and are about to embark upon a hectic 10 date tour this April.  The band feature some of the most talented players from the younger generation of the English and traditional world music scenes, Bellowhead put English music firmly on the world stage.  Following their recent sell out performance at Shepherds Bush Empire Bellowhead are poised to release their first DVD in 2008.

About the Peace Hospice

The Peace Hospice (registered charity no. 1002878) based in Watford, provides a warm, friendly and supportive environment in which patients and their families are always made to feel welcome. The Hospice is a centre of excellence providing highly specialised palliative care and has a specialist team of doctors, nurses, bereavement counsellors, social workers and therapists who use their expertise and skills to care for people with a terminal illness and provide support for their families and carers across South West Hertfordshire.

The Hospice has been carefully designed making best use of natural materials, light and space so that it provides a warm, friendly and supportive environment in which everyone feels welcome.

In the day care and inpatient units the Peace Hospice does much more than simply manage pain and treat symptoms. A range of therapies like massage, physiotherapy and relaxation techniques help the patients to come to terms with their condition.

The social work/ family services team is there to help patients and their families with practical and psychological issues. They support bereaved families and friends through a bereavement service, which also runs the 'STARS' grief programme for children.
