Bellowhead concert is a big success
May 6th 2008

If you were lucky enough to obtain a ticket then you would have enjoyed the wonderful Bellowhead concertperformance of the 11-piece folk band Bellowhead, who staged a one-off performance for local charity: the Peace Hospice. An amazing £6,129 has been raised from the evening and thanks must go to event organiser Paul Dean for helping to make it possible.

The event happened at the Watersmeet Theatre in Rickmansworth on Friday 18th April 2008. There were 380 people that had gathered to be part of this rare opportunity to see Bellowhead in concert and support the fundraising efforts of the charity. For those of you that have never heard the name Bellowhead before, they are an 11 piece folk orchestra. Three time winners of the BBC Best live Act whose music is described by saxophonist Brenda Kelly as “World Music combing traditional elements, mixed with Jazz and a few other things. It’s different but it works”.

The concert kicked off with Benji Kirkpatrick delivering a high quality set of songs from his recently release new Album “Boomerang”. Listeners to Mike Harding on BBC Radio 2 may already be familiar with Benji’s work as founder member of Bellowhead and through a recent interview about his solo album release.

Bellowhead concert RickmansworthBellowhead hit the stage with a spirited rendition of “Prickle-Eye Bush, the expectant audience responded and continued with bouncy and rapturous support throughout the entire set which featured many of the bands favourites. Concert organiser Paul Dean said “The event has been far more successful than I could have reasonably expected, I don’t think that Watersmeet has held a concert like this for quite some time, and everyone that I have talked to had a great time. We have had great feedback on the web and through Myspace.  For me one of the objectives of the event was to raise as much money as possible for the Peace Hospice and I am totally overwhelmed by the final number, which is a fantastic £6,129.00.

“There are many people that I would like to thank, but particularly Phoenix IT Services for its support, all the fine team at the Watersmeet Theatre. The sound and lighting team: Rob and Bellowhead concert RickmansworthBruce plus the Friends of Watersmeet. Finally a big thank you must go to Bellowhead, for such a wonderful performance and for a great and memorable night.”
